Our preparations for the highlight of Leipzig Pride programme week – our demonstration on Saturday – are continuing at full speed. We were shocked by the events that took place at the Pride in Bautzen. This has also meant that we have had to step up our security measures this year and have agreed with the Leipzig Police Headquarters on how we can secure our event for you.
Please also note the following information from Leipzig Police Headquarters:
“As Leipzig police, we are experienced in dealing with large-scale operations – it is clear that the Pride in Leipzig will be protected on Saturday.
Our aim is to ensure that the Pride in Leipzig can take place as planned, as well as the subsequent street festival on Augustusplatz! To this end, many police officers from the police stations, the traffic police, the criminal investigation department and our task force will be present in the city centre. We have requested the support of several hundred police officers from the riot police in Saxony and other federal states. We have already received commitments from Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony. We are also cooperating closely with the federal police. Another focus of Leipzig Police Headquarters is on guaranteeing the fundamental right to freedom of assembly – within the limits of constitutional law – for all participants in the reported demonstrations. One right-wing/extremist gathering will take place under the slogan ‘white, normal, hetero’ and three reported rallies by the ‘Leipzig nimmt Platz’ (Leipzig takes a stand) action alliance under the slogan ‘No place for Nazis’. This will lead to temporary traffic restrictions on Saturday morning, mainly in the city centre.”
Due to the situation this year, there will be an increased and more visible deployment of police around Augustusplatz and also at the main railway station. We know that this can be unpleasant for Leipzig Pride participants. We ask for your understanding. Please be careful when you are on your way to us, especially around Leipzig Central Station, because the registered counter-protest of right-wing groups will already be gathering there from 10:00 am. It is best to come in groups to Augustusplatz.
We have compiled further information and demonstration requirements for you on the Pride information page and these will also be shared again via our social media channels.
One thing is certain: We will be demonstrating tomorrow. We will be visible and fight for queer rights!
We choose diversity!
